Upgrade your home with energy efficient retrofits

Introducing the Durham Region & Pathwise Home Energy Retrofit Program

The purpose of this program is to allow for homeowners of Durham to retrofit their homes, therefore better their environmental impacts, save on utility bills, benefit their homes value. They will initially work with a consultant selected by the Durham region to get recommendations on the changes they can make to benefit their homes. This initiative will run for 4 years. 

 
 

What will this program finance?

Durham region residents will be able to apply for financing for the following improvements through an EnerGuide Home Energy audit conducted by an NRCan certified home energy advisor. Typical residential energy efficiency and renewable energy measures include, but are not limited to: 

  • Air sealing; 
  • Insulation;
  • Window replacement;
  • Heating and cooling equipment replacement;
  • Water heating upgrades;
  • Renewable energy systems (e.g. rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV),); and
  • Electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

Eligible properties include single family (1-4 unit) owner occupied homes. 

How will the process work?

  1. Applicants will apply through the Durham Home Energy Retrofit Program Website

  2. Homeowners will meet with a Durham Region Home Energy Coach, an assessment will be made and recommendations of upgrades will be made. 

  3. The Home Energy Coach will review contractor quotes and support the homeowner through the upgrade project.

  4. With the approval of the Home Energy Coach, the homeowner will apply for financing at Pathwise. 

  5. If approved, money can be used to fund identified projects.

What do the numbers look like?

Loan amounts can be from $5000 to $40,000, variable rate with no prepayment penalty.

For loan amounts $5000 to $15,000 lengths up to 84 months. For loan amounts greater than $15,000, lengths up to 120 months. Borrowers can select shorter terms. Applicants must be compliant with Pathwise's policies.

To help you better understand what may be the most effective green retrofits for you and your home, Durham Region residents can talk to a Home Energy Coach, who will answer any questions you may have and guide you through both the incentive process and the many retrofit options available.
